Durable, practical yet beautiful, teak is considered to be the perfect material to create lavish furniture that pairs well with any outdoor setting. Thanks to the excellent features of corrosion-resistant, teak outdoor furniture is beautiful, durable and practical. You can leave your teak furniture outside in the weather without becoming twisted or warped. And you can rest assured that your teak garden furniture will not crack, splinter, or be a home to termites! With proper care, teak will maintain its attractive and durable qualities.

Caring With Teak Sealer

With high oil content, new pieces of teakwood furniture look natural in a honey brown color. There will be always a polished appearance on the surface. Such appearance comes from oil occurring naturally in the wood, which is the aging process. The oil on the surface will evaporate after a few days outdoors. Then teak outdoor furniture will turn a handsome silver-gray color with fine cracks appearance. This process will take approximately 9 to 12 months. Using a teak sealant is recommended over teak oil as it preserves the natural hues of the teak and does not encourage moisture build up. It also only needs to be applied once a year making it a great minimal maintenance option.

Cleaning And Removing the Stains with Sandpaper

There are no special maintenance requirements needed for teak furniture very little apart from the occasional scrub. For most stains cleaning teak with a formulated cleaner or even just a bit of unscented soap and water should work. Deeper stains, however, such as watermarks, wine or coffee may require a light sanding. You can also start with a coarser sandpaper and follow up with a fine grain sandpaper to leave a smooth finish. This should be followed by a rinse with clean water. To remove grease spots, a light scrub with a de-greasing agent is recommended. This, too, should be followed by a rinse with clean water.

Storing With Proper Protection

It is recommended to keep teak furniture covered during the winter months. It can keep them clean and guarantee they stays in great condition. Use a material that allows the wood to breathe. Make sure that there are no pools of water on or under your furniture. That is a good idea to ensure a longer lifespan of your furniture. If you take these pieces indoor, do not store them in a heated room. The heat can dry out the wood and cause cracks. It is normal for teak wood to expand and contract with time and changes in weather. Some of the joints are not glued, like the slats in the back of chairs. From time to time you may need to tighten the fasteners.
